Staffordshire County Council is committed to providing high-quality transport services for our community. With approximately 1,200 home-to-school contracts and over 330 transport providers, we play a crucial role in ensuring that children travel safely to and from school. Our Transport Procurement team is at the heart of this effort, maintaining the Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) and awarding contracts through regular tender exercises.

Main Responsibility

As a Transport Contracts Assistant , you’ll be responsible for several key tasks:

  • DPS Database Maintenance: You’ll assist in maintaining our DPS database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information on eligible transport providers.

  • Processing Applications: Transport operators looking to join the DPS will submit applications, and you’ll play a pivotal role in processing these requests.

  • Contract Awards: Following our rigorous procurement processes, you’ll award contracts for home-to-school transport services. Your attention to detail will provide reassurance to parents and guardians that their children are in safe hands.

  • Collaboration: You’ll work closely with the Transport Planning, Compliance, and DBS Safeguarding teams to maintain a current list of eligible providers. Additionally, you’ll collaborate with the Transport Finance Team and the Transport Safeguarding (DBS) team to ensure compliance with our procurement policy.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • Procurement Experience: You have experience in procurement processes, ideally within a public sector context.
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy matters. Your meticulous approach ensures that tenders and contracts are handled flawlessly.
  • Team Player: You thrive in collaborative environments and can effectively communicate with various stakeholders.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with procurement policies and regulations is a plus.
  • Strong Administration Background: Your administrative skills are essential for managing complex tasks efficiently.
  • Effective Multitasking: Prioritising workload and adapting to changing circumstances are second nature to you.
  • Excellent Communication: You’re a good communicator and team player, confident in working with people at all levels.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse and interpret complex information is crucial for success in this role.
