ASSIST (Autism & Sensory Support in Staffordshire) is part of the Specialist Support Service which provides access and support for people who have a hearing/vision impairment and/or an Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). ASSIST has a post-16 focus on supporting in the community, workplace, further and higher education settings.
Main Responsibility
You will coordinate/maintain the day-to-day running of ASSIST. You will have the opportunity to develop specialist skills, knowledge and understanding in relation to sensory impairment and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
You will work alongside the Project Co-ordinator and fellow Translation & Transcription Co-ordinators to develop and support the post-16 work the service delivers.
The Translation & Transcription Co-ordinator role primarily involves co-ordinating a team of BSL Interpreters, Communication Support Workers, Notetakers and Tutors to provide support for students in further and higher education settings as well as a wide range of community settings.
Along with co-ordinating support, the role involves securing funding for support roles. You'll be processing travel, expense and pay claims and invoicing for support provided. You will be required to offer advice and guidance for requests coming in by telephone, email and text messages from both internal and external customers, and from colleagues too. So you'll need to feel comfortable engaging with different people on a daily basis.
There are some repetitive tasks you'll do from time to time that are essential to the running of the service but no two days are the same in this role so if you like a varied role this will suit you perfectly!
You'll also do a lot of your work using your ICT skills such as:
- Working with Excel and bespoke software designed for the department to organise timetables, overviews of support, anticipated costs, data entry, income and spend monitoring, modification and archiving, inputting of orders, producing and modifying reports and invoicing information.
- Working with Access to retrieve information.
- Working with Word and existing templates to complete bookings information and reports.
- Working with Outlook to timetable work for the team, as well as monitoring and managing the shared mailbox.
- Working with SCC software (My Finance) for production of invoices as well as finance monitoring.
- Maintaining the Microsoft Teams area available to staff.
- Working on and co-ordinating the production of various types of transcription: braille, audio, easy read, BSL (training provided for this)
- Setting up meetings with external partners.
- Liaising with service users around their individual needs to co-ordinate specific appropriate support.
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role you'll need:
- Experience in an administration role or an equivalent qualification
- NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration or ICT skills which will enable you to do those responsibilities above using Microsoft programmes
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisational skills
Hearing impairment, vision impairment or ASC knowledge would be useful, however specialist training will be provided in this area if you do not have this knowledge.
