Technical Support Officer - Flood Risk Management

Job Introduction

Are you looking for an exciting development opportunity in the Council in the Flood Risk Management Team?  

If so,  come join us and you will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of disciplines including; highways, planning, environmental and emergency planning disciplines and with various external partners.

Our service has a proven track record and is nationally recognised for its work and excellent achievement of delivering priorities including the provision of a flood risk management service to a number of neighbouring Lead Local Flood Authorities.

We are also a Lead Local Flood Authority and provides a number of flood-related functions including providing statutory responses to planning applications, undertaking flood investigations, land drainage consents and scheme/project delivery. We act as the lead and co-ordinating body to reduce flood risk to residents and businesses within Staffordshire. 

 

Main Responsibility

You will be responsible for supporting the Flood Risk Management Team in their day to day activities including:

  • responding to emails from the public and external bodies, 
  • reviewing and processing planning applications,
  • processing land drainage consents,
  • processing flood risk data including the use of GIS systems,
  •  improving asset data sets 
  • raising invoices and quotes for work.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have 

  • related technical qualification to the discipline or a willingness to undertake related appropriate (BTec, City & Guilds or similar) qualification.
  • knowledge of flood risk management and/or related discipline 
  • experience and knowledge of sound administrative and financial practices and procedures
  • experience of working with stakeholders
  • experience in the use of, and inputting data to, computer based systems including SAP, databases and geographic information systems (GIS) 
  • ability to work accurately, at times under pressure and achieve within timescale
  • excellent inter personal skills
  • self-starter with a drive to succeed, demonstrating a positive ‘Can do’ attitude. 
  • able to deal with a range of issues and conflicting demands , whilst delivering to tight deadlines, keeping calm under pressure.
