Special Education Needs (SEN) Travel Assistance Officer

Job Introduction

Our Transport Operations Team is responsible for the provision and management of all home to school transport, special educational needs transport, supported local bus services and a number of grant funded community/voluntary transport schemes. 

Approximately 7,000 pupils across Staffordshire are transported to school each day by over 100 transport providers operating taxis, private hire vehicles, minibuses, coaches and buses.

Main Responsibility

You'll be responsible for providing service planning, monitoring, client assurance, operational delivery and auditable services for Special Education Needs this will also include:

  • the administration of Special Education Needs travel assistance 
  • assisting in the Development of SEN travel assistance services which provide value for money
  • developing travel assistance programmes in line with the introduction and implementation of Education, Health and Care Plans to secure the best outcome for young people across their education and training.

The Ideal Candidate

Ideally you should have previous experience in a transport or Special Educational Needs setting together with:

  • attention to detail and the ability to approach all aspects of the role calmly and objectively
  • Experience of working in schools, transport planning or a SEND environment would be advantageous but not essential.
