Job Introduction

Are you CCAB qualified, preferably with a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience, and looking to progress your career with Staffordshire County Council?

If so, you are encouraged to consider the role of Senior Finance Business Partner, a key role in the Decision Making Support team, to ensure financial strategies are implemented and that financial resources are managed appropriately.

We are looking for someone to join our dynamic, motivated, and flexible finance team at a senior level to help us maintain and enhance our business partnering function.

Working closely with Strategic Finance Business Partners and other senior colleagues, you will help the Decision Making Support team to ensure financial strategies are implemented and that financial resources are managed appropriately.

You will have an office base in Stafford, and we currently operate hybrid working, so there is flexibility for you to work from home, subject to service requirements.

Interviews are expected w/c 13 November.

Main Responsibility

You will be required to:

  • Work with internal/ external partner stakeholders at a senior level
  • Lead the development of the strategic budget setting and quarterly revenue and capital budget monitoring processes for a directorate(s)
  • Monitor and challenge performance against budget plans, supporting the identification of remedial action and to exploit the opportunities/realise efficiency savings, understanding the impact on the wider MTFS
  • Support the development of business cases through assessment of the financial and resource implications 
  • Provide advice to Project Boards on project budgets and spending
  • Contribute to the effectiveness of the Decision Making Support services by leading and supervising a small number of Finance Partners

 

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is CCAB qualified, preferably CIPFA
  • Has a minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience desirable
  • Has an excellent understanding of local government finance and the current challenges for local authorities 
  • Can build strong influential working relationships with the ability to influence internal and external partner stakeholders at a senior leadership team level, offering challenge where required
  • Is analytical, be able to manipulate, analyse and interpret financial information to identify and present trends, financial risks, mitigations, options and logical proposals to aid decision-making in support of stakeholders
  • Is an excellent team player and can demonstrate an ability to effectively manage others including work planning, prioritising activities and performance monitoring
