Senior Educational Psychologist

Job Introduction

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior EP to join our growing service. This year, we have led on LA wide initiatives such as ELSA, our nationally renowned literacy project, and supporting children who are care experienced as part of our work with the Virtual School.  We continue to use psychology in everything we do to change and improve the life experiences of children and families in Staffordshire.

We are looking for a Senior EP who can apply psychology at a systems level, leading psychological initiatives, continuing to enhance the practice of our district teams and working collaboratively with services and professionals across the county. As a new member of the senior leadership team, you will have a comprehensive induction and support as you take up your role.

This post is based in Newcastle and Moorlands and will also hold a county wide brief.

Main Responsibility

Through the effective application of psychological principles and techniques you will:

  • Provide line management and psychological supervision for educational psychologists, and support the development and smooth running of a district team
  • Take a pro-active role in providing a highly professional service for children and young people, parents/carers and professional colleagues in collaboration with the Principal and other members of the Senior team.
  • With the EPS Senior Team, lead the strategic planning for the EPS service to continually improve standards and contribute to service development.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of impact, efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery, to inform planning and action
  • Proactively identify possible changes in service policy, procedures and practice
  • Take the lead within the Educational Psychology Service for specific functions  of that service across the County
  • Lead team and service meetings and attend local authority working groups as required
  • Contribute to the strategic work of the SEND team though attendance at panels, support for tribunals and to the smooth running of the EHC pathway

The Ideal Candidate

You will have an honours degree in Psychology (or equivalent) recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS) as well as recognised post graduate training and qualification in Educational Psychology. You must also be registered with the Heath and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

You will also have experience of supervising psychologists and/ or other professionals, leading a strategic activity or task and finish group and of developing and implementing psychological interventions at an individual and wider systems level.
