Job Introduction
Our Transport Operations and Future Mobility team are looking for 2 full time term time and 1 part time term time School Travel Advisor to provide additional capacity to an existing team.
A diverse and exciting role, you'll be delivering active travel projects and marketing campaigns targeting parents, pupils and staff at schools.
Our Active Travel Team work across Staffordshire with schools, businesses and in the community to deliver active travel projects.
Our projects aim to increase active travel, provide training and raise awareness of the health and wellbeing benefits this can bring to individuals and the environment such as:
- Bikeability
- INTO Walking & Cycling
- Air Aware
- School Active Travel
Two main key priorities for the team over a two year period include School Streets and Walking Buses. These will be the main areas of work for these additional roles. Both areas of work will require intense engagement which will require a team of confident individuals.
Main Responsibility
You will engage with a variety of stakeholders, parents, school staff and members of the public. The journey to school is a key part of the school day which accounts for congestion issues across the county. It is an opportunity for parents and pupils to be active, however this is often a missed opportunity. You'll play a key part of promoting that change of behaviour through targeted initiatives.
Key aims are:
- Increase active travel to school
- Improve air quality, and raise awareness
- Collect and analyse mode of travel used to target activities
- Increase the number of schools with an active School Travel Plan
- Increase the number of Walking Buses
- Increase the number of schools taking part in the School Streets campaign
You will help to achieve this through:
- Annual active travel campaigns and initiatives for schools
- Developing, implementing, and supporting Walking Buses
- Providing training opportunities
- Developing training and lesson plans for teachers
- Delivering PHSE and workshops for pupils to support campaigns
- Writing and monitoring of School Travel Plans
This role is not classroom based, however it is part of the role to engage directly with students on occasion for example during PHSE, assemblies, events and workshops.
This is a fun and rewarding role, with a serious message, working to support schools to achieve benefits to the environment, school local communities, support student independence and increase health and wellbeing of pupils.
The Ideal Candidate
You'll have:
- experience of working with schools or within education/training, delivering outcome-based initiatives.
- experience of developing resources, working directly with children and students up to age 16.
- experience of setting and achieving targets and project outcomes.
- be a confident communicator, you'll have ability to sell the benefits of travel behaviour change to a variety of audiences.
- have a passion for encouraging and promoting all forms of active and sustainable travel.
There are 3 positions, 2 full time term time and 1 part time term time. Starting September 2024.
