Job Introduction

This role sits within the Highways Asset Management team, within the Economy, Infrastructure and Skills directorate.

Asset Management underpins all activities on the network ensuring whole life planning is considered at every stage of development. The team is responsible for designing, scheduling and supervising preventative and structural maintenance schemes, monitoring highway condition data and maintaining the Highways Base Specification.
 

There are two Project Engineer positions available - one for schemes in the North of Staffordshire and one for schemes in the South. 

In the North of Staffordshire, this encompasses an area from Stafford to the Cheshire county boundary. In the South of Staffordshire, this encompasses an area from Stafford to the West Midlands Conurbation boundary. 

Main Responsibility

You will be working closely with the Senior Engineers and Asset Manager to use your knowledge and skills to design and supervise highway maintenance schemes. You will liaise with various external and internal companies, authorities and stakeholders to programme and monitor ongoing works.

Reporting into the Asset Management Team you will ensure designs are completed to the highest standards in accordance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and the Staffordshire Highways Specification.

For the North Staffordshire position this includes areas such as Stafford, Newcastle under Lyme and Leek. 
For the South Staffordshire position this includes Burton, Tamworth and Wombourne. 

The Ideal Candidate

You should possess excellent inter-personal and customer service skills, be a highly motivated, self-starter with a drive to succeed, demonstrating a positive ‘can do’ attitude. You will be able to deal with a range of issues and conflicting demands whilst adhering to relevant legislation and delivering to tight deadlines and keeping calm under pressure.

What you’ll have:

  • Professional Qualifications or Educational Qualifications in Civil Engineering
  • Significant previous experience in the design and delivery of highway maintenance related projects
  • Experience of dealing with road works on the public highway
  • Knowledge and understanding of design standards and statutory requirements associated with highway works
  • Full UK driving licence
