Principal Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Engineer

Job Introduction

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a driven and enthusiastic individual to continue and progress a career in the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) team at Staffordshire County Council.

Staffordshire County Councils new outlined Strategic Plan sets out to fix more roads and improve transport. We look after approximately 600 ITS assets across Staffordshire to ensure that roads and footways are safe and accessible for road users and communities. The assets include Traffic Signals, Vehicle Activated Signs, CCTV and other ITS related equipment placed upon the Highway. In addition to maintaining the existing ITS assets, the team ensure that new ITS assets on developments and road improvements meet the correct standards and are properly installed.

We are seeking an innovator to drive the team as the ITS sector continues to make technological advances. We are currently replacing all halogen signal heads to LED. This will generate significant savings in energy consumption and carbon emissions and reduce maintenance. There will be further technological developments in the sector as the move to vehicle electrification and automation intensifies.

Main Responsibility

You will manage the ITS team by assisting with the management, operation, design and development of the range of functions undertaken by the team.

As our Principal ITS Engineer, you will be the driving force behind our ambitious projects, utilizing your technical prowess and leadership skills to lead a team of brilliant engineers. You'll work collaboratively with our clients and stakeholders to understand their unique challenges and create customized solutions that surpass expectations.

The Ideal Candidate

With a wealth of experience in designing and implementing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) solutions, you are a true expert in the field. Your proven leadership skills have guided multidisciplinary teams to resounding success, fostering collaboration and delivering outstanding outcomes.

Your passion for technology and innate curiosity drive you to stay at the forefront of industry trends, ensuring our projects are infused with the latest innovations. Your exceptional communication and presentation abilities enable you to effortlessly convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences, making you an indispensable bridge between our technical team and stakeholders.
