Onsite Supervisor (Uttoxeter Library)

Job Introduction

We see our library roles as a vocation, supporting community well-being and providing a much-needed service to existing and new library customers.

If you are looking for a role that will make a real difference to the lives of those within local communities but also, and more importantly, to the lives of your colleagues, the role of Library Supervisor at Uttoxeter Library could be just the job for you!

Based at Uttoxeter Library, which is open daily Monday to Saturday,you may be required to work at other libraries in the district, including Burton, Stafford and Stone on occasion.

You will work 37 hours a week including some weekend working.

Week One

Monday               8:45 - 17:15

Tuesday              8:45 - 17:15

Thursday             8:45 - 17:15

Friday                 8:45 - 17:15

Saturday             9:00 - 16:15

Week Two

Monday               8:45 - 17:15

Tuesday              8:45 - 17:15

Wednesday         8:45 - 17:15

Thursday            8:45 - 17:15

Friday                 8:45 - 17:15

Main Responsibility

You’ll be a leader and someone who embraces change, a problem solver and a team player. You will have the opportunity to make a real difference and demonstrate your people management skills and can do attitude.

You will lead a vibrant and welcoming team of Library Assistants, ensuring they provide a high standard of customer service.

You’ll also:

  • Deliver training and support, including ICT to your team to enable them to develop to meet the demands of their role.
  • Ensure a safe environment for staff and customers in line with corporate Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Promote library stock, services and events through social media and outreach events to increase issues and visits.
  • Monitor and evaluate performance through the collection and analysis of statistics.
  • Manage attendance and performance.

The Ideal Candidate

Whether you have previous experience of supervising and managing a team or are looking to progress into a supervisory role, you’ll be:

  • A positive leader with the ability to motivate the team to work to the best of their ability and maximise performance.
  • Confident is using a range of ICT software including MS Office.
  • An effective organiser, with the ability to deploy staff and resources within the library and the wider district.
  • Empathetic, providing a customer focussed service, signposting where necessary to partner organisations.
  • Ambitious, enthusiastic and proactive with great customer service skills.
  • Confident and calm with integrity and the imagination to help the library service move forward.
  • Creative – finding creative ways to promote and integrate the library into the community and satisfy its diverse needs. 

You may be required to adjust your timetable at times to cover absences of team members, for example, and so would suit someone with the availability and flexibility to accommodate this.

Appropriate training will be provided, and the post will allow for personal and professional development.
