Job Introduction

Are you an experienced Occupational Therapist, looking for a rewarding role supporting in the community to maximise independence and wellbeing?

We have an exciting opportunity to join a brand-new service supporting people to regain their independence and learn new skills. Our Independence at Home service will help prevent hospital and care home admissions and enable people to stay in their homes.

Working flexibly across various care settings, delivery approaches and locations, you will manage the Occupational Therapy Assistant and undertake support duties to deliver the day-to-day operations of services.

You will be expected to work flexibly across the week according to business need.

Main Responsibility

As an Occupation Therapist you will:

  • Be passionate about delivering person centred care, ensuring care plans and risk assessments for the people we support are in place, assessed, planned, implemented, and reviewed regularly. Consult with and involving individuals and others where appropriate making sure all care and support is personalised, tailored, and meets the stated individual outcomes
  • Be a strong communicator, with the ability to liaise with families/carers and other professionals as necessary to build good relationships with relatives and other professionals
  • Demonstrate professional expertise, which will enable you to contribute to the assessment of service referrals and reviews, ensuring the process is followed in a timely manner
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the needs of people with complex needs and how occupational therapy could promote their independence
  • Be able to manage, motivate, coach and support staff and nurture colleagues to reach their potential
  • Support the Service Manager and the team in developing this new service and expanding it to meet the needs of local people
  • Have sound judgement and the ability to resolve day-to-day problems, emergencies, and issues in a short-term home care service
  • Have conflict resolution and negotiation skills and can remain calm in challenging situations
  • Adapt and respond positively to change and work effectively under pressure and prioritise workloads
  • Have a commitment to maintaining professional knowledge base, remaining current with developments in the social care field in equipment, technology and reablement
  • Demonstrable expertise in the use of technology and equipment to assist those with disabilities or other needs

The Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • Diploma College of Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with Health Professions Council
  • Driver’s license with use of your own vehicle
  • Relevant work experience within a social care provider setting
  • Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory framework affecting vulnerable adults and working within these restraints
  • Knowledge of the personalisation agenda, care planning and reviews and evidence of a commitment to achieving positive, personalised outcomes for individuals
  • Knowledge of risk management and positive risk taking and experience assessing, managing, and mitigating risks
  • Experience in the management of staff, including recruitment and selection, support, and supervision
  • Experience of promoting genuine community participation and inclusion for people receiving this service
