Media Relations Officer

Job Introduction

We’re looking for an experienced, creative media relations expert to join our award-winning Communications team, who are responsible for developing and implementing council-wide internal and external communications.

This is a chance to have a long-lasting, positive impact on the people of Staffordshire through creating and delivering engaging, insight-led media relations.

This is a fixed-term post, so we are looking for someone who is able to hit the ground running and deliver content across all media and social media channels.

Main Responsibility

Experience in either journalism or media relations is essential for this role.

You’ll work with an experienced media relations team to deliver the proactive story the county council has to tell, as well as dealing with day-to-day queries from both regional and national journalists and helping to manage the council’s reputation.

You will help dig out stories and create and deliver content for the media and also for social media, websites, newsletters, and other channels.

We are looking for someone with creativity and enthusiasm, who is ready to hit the ground running from day one.

You’ll also get the opportunity to work across the organisation and learn more about working in local government and public affairs.

We offer hybrid working arrangements, and although remote working is welcome, you will be expected to travel to our office in Stafford, and around the county on occasion, for site visits, filming and content creation, and media opportunities.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with proven journalism or media relations experience.

This is a fixed term post for 12 months,, so may suit someone who who is looking to make a move to a new challenging career.

You will need to have a good understanding of media, social media and how to sell-in stories across all channels both regionally and nationally. An interest in the political world and how local government operates would also be beneficial.

No two days are the same and you will need to be ready to hit the ground running.

The media team is based in Stafford, but hybrid working is available and you must be willing and able to travel around the county to gather video content for our channels.

We are looking for a candidate with bags of enthusiasm, ideas and creativity to help the council continue to share its story.
