Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Technical Assistant

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

Job Introduction

Are you looking to start an exciting career in Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS)?

Our team looks after approximately 600 ITS assets across Staffordshire to ensure that roads and footways are safe and accessible for road users and communities.

This includes Traffic Signals, Vehicle Activated Signs, CCTV and other ITS related equipment placed upon the Highway. In addition to maintaining the existing ITS assets, the team ensure that new ITS assets on developments and road improvements meet the correct standards and are properly installed.

The ITS sector is innovative and continues to make technological advances. The County Council are currently challenged in replacing all halogen signal heads to LED. This will generate significant savings in energy consumption and carbon emissions and reduce maintenance. There will be further technological developments in the sector as the move to vehicle electrification intensifies.

Main Responsibility

A great development - you'll  provide support to the ITS team by assisting with the management, operation, design and development of the range of functions undertaken by the team.

You'll follow a structured training programme to develop knowledge and skills in the field of ITS, enabling progression to more senior roles in the team.

In addition we work in partnership with Swarco and Amey LG to deliver the majority of our highway operations. This will provide you with both public and private sector experience.

The Ideal Candidate

You will need to be motivated, organised, able to prioritise, with a good level of computer literacy and attention to detail. Experience in ITS is not required, but a technical background is helpful.

You will be required to travel across Staffordshire and occasionally outside of Staffordshire. A Casual Car User allowance will apply to the role. The role is primarily based at the Stafford office; however, some flexible working will be permitted as part of this role by agreement with your line manager.

We’re happy to talk about flexible working and part time hours will be considered

Closing Date: Thursday 20 July 2023

Interview Date: Wednesday 26 July 2023
