Job Introduction
The Alders children’s home provides short term care for up to 4 young people aged between 12 and 17 years. The purpose of the home is to provide a safe and secure environment that promotes the welfare of looked after children, whilst contributing to the assessment of the young person’s needs.
We are currently recruiting for a Handyperson to work 16-20 hours a week (hours and working pattern negotiable) to carry out a range of general repairs and maintenance duties to the interior and exterior of our beautiful Grade 2 Listed building.
Main Responsibility
You will have:
- Experience in minor plumbing, carpentry and use of mechanical and electrical equipment is essential.
This role would also include the light maintenance of outside areas and large garden, this is primarily keeping it tidy (lawn mowing and hedge trimming is contracted out) as our garden is used by our young people in support of their behavioural development.
The Ideal Candidate
You will also have:
- An encouraging attitude and an appreciation of maintaining high standards within the home environment are essential.
- A good sense of humour and patience is paramount to the homes philosophy of working with our young people in a Pedagogic way and you may be required to mentor on a one to one basis from time to time to promote independence skills such as decorating.
- Knowledge of Building Management Systems such as Fire and Water safety, central heating and boilers, accurate record keeping and time management skills are all an integral aspect of this role.
- An understanding of Health and Safety Regulations and experience in this field would be valuable and you will need to be able to use outlook and have basic ICT literacy.
Enhanced DBS - This position is subject to a criminal records check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) which will require you to disclose details of all unspent and unfiltered spent reprimands, formal warnings, cautions and convictions in your application form.
