Fleet and Engineering Manager

Job Introduction

County Fleet Care acquires and looks after the council's internal fleet covering a wide range of services and vehicle types from tractors and excavators to salt spreaders and library vans. It also provides services to other public bodies and private customers.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fleet and Engineering Manager to join our team. You will operate a traded service and be the council’s lead for it's fleet operations and policy, so if you have experience of fleet management and workshop operations, we are keen to hear from you!

Main Responsibility

You will have responsibility for:

  • developing and delivering the Fleetcare Business Plan and making sure the council has the right fleet for it’s needs by acquisitions, disposals and maintenance operations
  • maintaining and developing effective relationships with internal and external customers
  • being the Council's Transport Manager, Operator Licence Holder and VOSA Authorised Manager for MOT testing
  • developing and implementing policies and operations to minimise the carbon production of the council's fleet activity
  • running the workshop and on site activities safely

The Ideal Candidate

You will:

  • have significant experience of fleet management either from an operational or maintenance perspective - ideally both
  • need to either be, or willing to become the council's, Vehicle Operators licence holder and VOSA Authorised Manager
  • possess good financial management skills and be used to operating to a commercial business plan
  • be experienced in developing good relationships with customers both internal and external
