Duty Social Worker

Main Responsibility

As a Duty Hub Social Worker, you’ll work within a busy Duty team, completing Initial Visits and Child Social Work Assessments following new referrals from our Staffordshire Childrens Advice and Support Service. The work will be varied, but essentially you would be dealing with all new referrals from SCASS, covering S.47 investigations, S.17 Child in Need assessments and issuing Care Proceedings in some instances. Where an assessments concludes that a Child in Need or Child Protection Plan is required, the child will then transfer to our Assessment and Staying Together Teams. 

We work on a hybrid basis between the office and home working if you wish and you will be provided with a laptop and mobile phone to enable agile working.  

Applicants for these posts will need to have completed 2 years post qualifying (inclusive of their ASYE Year) We’ll ensure you gain experience and training to conduct ‘Achieving Best Evidence Interviews’ alongside the other extensive training opportunities offered by Staffordshire. 

Our office base is in the centre of Cannock with the town and several supermarkets within walking distance. Other superstores and shopping complexes are also a short drive away including the new McArthur Glen Designer Outlet and the New Life superstore, both taking around 5 minutes to get to by car. 

The office base is a few minutes drive from the M6 exit and has enough free parking for everyone. We have our Duty Hub based here alongside 3 Assessment and Staying Together Teams (safeguarding teams), a Children in Care Team and 3 Early Help/Family Practitioner Teams. It is a comfortable, warm and friendly place to work and we consistently receive comments about what a nice working environment it is. 

The Ideal Candidate

You’ll need to be a:

  • Qualified Social Worker, with at least 2 year's experience having completed your ASYE year
  • Registered with Social Work England
  • Have a current UK driving licence and vehicle

But above all, you’ll bring the desire to work with children and families to give them the right support, at the right time with the aim of keeping families together where it’s safe to do so.
