Job Introduction
The Active Travel Project team is looking for two enthusiastic individuals to join the Connectivity Active Travel Project Support Officers to deliver the walking and cycling element of a new and exciting project.
"INTO Newcastle - Walking & Cycling" is a social prescribing pilot project targeted to bring health benefits through a range of exciting activities.
INTO (Inspiring New Travel Options) Newcastle is a 3-year project delivered by Staffordshire County Council funded by Active Travel England. This exciting pilot will be a high-profile active travel project trialling new innovative engagement and evaluation methods.
The project aims for the residents in Newcastle-under-Lyme are to:
- Provide health benefits
- Reduce isolation
- Improve mental health
- Support return to work
- Increase active travel
The wider experienced Active Travel team deliver projects countywide to raise the profile of and increase walking and cycling. School Travel, Bikeability and Air Quality project teams will work alongside these roles sharing best practice and providing support.
Main Responsibility
The Connectivity Active Travel Trainers will form part of the project delivery team, providing walking and cycling activities daily to participants of the programme.
Delivery activities will include the following, but not limited to these:
- Coaching style 1:1 training
- Group led walking and cycling activities and training
- Adapted bikes - inclusive training
- Cycle Loan
- Events
- Promotion
Project support includes:
- Social media and promotion support
- Programme design
- Data collection, report writing, monitoring and evaluation
Due to the nature of the programme the candidate will need to be willing to work flexibly and on occasions out of normal office hours. Most of the delivery activity time will be in the Newcastle-under-Lyme area, however there is a requirement to work regularly from Staffordshire Place, Staffordshire County Council offices based in Stafford.
The Ideal Candidate
INTO Newcastle - Walking & Cycling will be launched in early 2023. You will need to be an enthusiastic and compelling communicator to engage directly with participants on a one-to-one basis.
A good team player with the ability to work alone and with members of the public. Fun and friendly, confident, and patient with a willingness to think outside of the box at times.
The role will provide cycle training to the National Standard. All trainers will be Bikeability National Standard Instructor qualified. Training will be provided if this qualification is not currently held. Walk leader and first aid training will also be provided, along with all equipment.
