Business Support Officer (Net Zero)

Job Introduction

We are seeking an experienced and passionate business support professional, for a fixed term role in Staffordshire County Council’s Environmental Business Support Team, to commence from January 2025 or sooner.

You will be part of a team that leads on environmental business support and funding and work closely with the climate change team.

The primary aim of the role is to project manage the Innovate UK (IUK) project that Staffordshire County Council and Keele University have been successful in securing funding for, under the IUK Pathfinder project.

The “Green Skills for Growth” project builds on the successful “Staffordshire Net Zero Living” feasibility study, addressing barriers to achieving Net Zero in Staffordshire, such as green supply chains and skills. This ground breaking initiative aims to show businesses that Staffordshire is open for green growth, highlighting short-term opportunities, identifying necessary green skills, and connecting providers to create a better future for businesses and residents.

This role is fixed term to 31st March 2026.

Main Responsibility

You will:

  • act as a primary point of contact for the project internally and externally.
  • project manage the scope of work packages within the project in line with IUK requirements to allow for the delivery of the project within defined timescales.
  • be responsible for the day to day activities of the project including engaging with an promoting the project to local businesses, organising events and meetings for the project.

The Ideal Candidate

You will have

  • a degree / equivalent academic ability or appropriate experience in an environmental discipline.
  • An understanding of sustainable policy, practice and activities for reaching net zero and experience of working within businesses support or other related work.
  • a proven ability to work collaboratively with partners to deliver shared goals.
  • a good sense of time management.

Interviews will be held: Week starting 4 November 2024.
