British Sign Language Interpreter

Job Introduction

Do you have experience of working with Deaf people in education and the community?

If so, we have an opportunity for a British Sign Language (BSL/English) interpreter to work with us in the ASSIST team.  

This is a permanent, full-time role, but we would welcome applications from individuals looking for part-time work.

We would also welcome applications from trainee BSL interpreters - we will provide support and mentoring during your training in order for you to achieve full registration

Main Responsibility

As part of the role, you will provide interpreting and translation services for internal and external partners in a variety of settings including health, education, and legal/quasi-judicial contexts.  You will also have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in relation to other sensory conditions including deafblind, vision impairment and autism spectrum condition

The Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • Experience of working with Deaf people (young people and adults)
  • Experience of working in education and the community
  • Computer literacy skills and experience / awareness in the use of specialist access technology
  • Excellent communication skills

 

Please note: This job is also open to trainee BSL interpreters who are eligible to be on the NRCPD register. During training, you will receive support and mentoring in order to achieve full registration.  You will be appointed at Grade 8 £29,439 – £33,820 (and certain roles restricted) until full qualification status is achieved.   During training, you will be eligible for Casual Car User allowance.  You will be required to obtain full registration within agreed timescales.
