British Sign Language Interpreter

Job Introduction

Do you have experience of interpreting for Deaf people in the community and education? We have an opportunity for a BSL interpreter in our ASSIST team.  

This is a permanent full-time role, but we welcome applications for part-time working.

If you are a trainee BSL interpreter**, we also welcome your application, and we will support you during your training in order to help you to achieve full registration.

**Successful applicants must meet the criteria to become a Regulated Trainee Interpreter as outlined by the National Register for Communication Professionals working with Deaf and Deafblind people (NRCPD) or equivalent regulatory body.

Main Responsibility

In this role you will provide interpreting and translation services for internal and external partners in a variety of settings including health, education, and legal/quasi-judicial contexts. 

You will have access to CPD opportunities, a team of experienced and supportive colleagues, NRCPD membership, peer mentoring and professional supervision. 

Qualified Interpreters on the out-of-hours rota are also entitled to Essential Car User allowance. 

The Ideal Candidate

You will have:

  • Experience of working with Deaf people (young people and adults) in community and education settings
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills

Please note: This job is also open to trainee BSL interpreters who are eligible to be registered with the NRCPD. You will receive support and mentoring to achieve full registration.  You will be appointed at Grade 8 £31,364 – £35,745 (with certain roles restricted) until full qualification status is achieved.  During training, you will be eligible for Casual Car User allowance. You will be required to obtain full registration within agreed timescales.
