Area Manager - School Crossing Patrol Service

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our busy School Crossing Patrol Service.

Staffordshire County Council has managed the School Crossing Patrol (SCP) Service since 1993 following its transfer from Staffordshire Police.  The service operates at 250 sites across Staffordshire.

The aim of the service is to ensure that children and adults can travel easily and safely whilst on their journeys to and from school. 

The role is Term Time.

Main Responsibility

No two days are the same in this exciting and challenging role.

As you assist in providing a safe and efficient school crossing patrol service, you will play a key role in the day to day management and co-ordination of a team of School Crossing Patrols across a designated geographical area.

You will be involved in

  • recruitment and training
  • monitoring of performance standards
  • health & safety and welfare / wellbeing of team members and the timely and effective management of absence.
  • undertaking regular risk & site assessments at bespoke individual locations in accordance with national guidance
  • ensure safeguarding guidance is followed by all patrols and deliver safeguarding training as required.

 

The Ideal Candidate

You’ll need to be able to work in a team, have good organisational and ICT skills (including MS Office).

You’ll also need:

  • good communication skills because as you will be interacting with different people across the organisation and externally through phone, in person and by email.
  • a flexible approach  - as sometimes things can change, so you’ll need to be able to prioritise work and sometimes change tasks quickly, often thinking on your feet.
  • an ability to work on your own initiative with minimum supervision.
  • a passion to always give the best service.

You will be covering Stafford and surrounding areas and parts of South Staffordshire so you would ideally need to live within commutable distance from any of the crossing points on the area. You would also need to be available from 7am and be at any given site from 8am several times a week.
