The Careers and Participation Service work with young people at risk of not participating in learning, or those who are not participating to provide support to enable them to engage in employment, education or training.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and conscientious person to work as an apprentice within the Tracking and Engagement Team.

Main Responsibility

Main responsibilities

Tracking and Engagement Advisors follow up, engage and maintain appropriate contact with young people to ascertain whether they are currently engaged in education, employment or training.

As an apprentice in this team, you will undertake a range of customer service and administrative duties which include:

  • Making telephone calls, updating client records and directing to the appropriate person. 
  • Completing a range of administrative tasks, processing incoming and outgoing mail, preparing resources and maintaining records, ensuring compliance with business processes
  • Using a range of ICT systems, databases and Microsoft packages as part of your daily work.

The Ideal Candidate

In this apprentice role, you will need:

  • Good communication skills because you will interact with lots of people externally and across the organisation through phone, email, text and letter.
  • Good organisation skills and attention to detail, as you’ll be keeping data updated and working to deadlines.
  • A ‘can do’ and flexible approach as sometimes things can change, and so you’ll need to be able to prioritise work and sometimes change tasks quickly.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office packages, however further training will be provided.
  • A passion to always give the best service.
  • Be able to work flexibly including evenings and Saturday, as required.

As well as learning on the job we will develop a guided learning path for you, working with our accredited training provider, Heart of England Training Ltd. We will support you to follow an approved apprenticeship standard in Customer Service at Level 2. This should take 15-18 months.

  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Communication
  • Influencing Skills
  • Personal Organisation
  • Dealing with customer conflict and challenge

You will receive continual support and be working in a team of high performing, dedicated and most importantly - friendly colleagues.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you will have developed great skills, that will help to take your career to the next level within an exciting and progressive Council.

Ideally the candidate will have the minimum of Level 1 in Maths and English, however, if not, the successful candidate will be required to achieve level 1 English and Maths and take level 2 English and Maths tests prior to completion of their Apprenticeship.
