Apprentice Support Worker (Working across North Staffordshire)

The Independence at Home service work with each person in their own home to identify their goals, build a robust plan to meet outcomes, and support them to regain their independence. We encourage everyone to reach their full potential. This is about doing care with people not for people.

This is a full-time position working across the north of Staffordshire county, including travel to our office based in Newcastle. Shifts will range between 7am to 10pm, which will include weekend and bank holiday working. We require our team to work flexibly, which means you may be required to work days, evenings, or split shifts.

The role will require an enhanced DBS check and a pre-employment health assessment.

* after a successful 3 month progress review and subject to terms and conditions that will be discussed at interview.

Main Responsibility

As an Apprentice in this team, you will:

  • be involved in the provision of excellent care that will allow the people we support to have a comfortable and dignified life within their own homes
  • assist in delivering care and support plans which focus on re-gaining independence and developing independent living skills
  • assist in administering medication
  • assist in providing personal and intimate care such as dressing and showering
  • assist the support to people with eating and drinking
  • accurately complete care records

The Ideal Candidate

In this Apprenticeship role you’ll bring:

  • you will be the minimum age of 18 as this post is subject to an enhanced DBS check
  • communication skills because you’ll interact with lots of people in the community and within the team (GCSE pass or equivalent in English)
  • a ‘can do’ and flexible approach to work - with the ability to prioritise work and sometimes change tasks quickly
  • a passion to always give the best service
  • you will be compassionate, patient and have a caring nature
  • remain calm in challenging situations
  • willing and able to support people with personal and intimate care need
  • able to undertake manual handling tasks

As well as learning on the job we will develop a guided learning path for you working with our accredited training provider (Newcastle and Stafford College). We will support you to follow an approved apprenticeship standard to achieve a level 2 qualification.

At the end of your apprenticeship, you will have developed great skills, that will help to take your career to the next level within an exciting and progressive Council. There will be job opportunities on completion of the apprenticeship, though a driving licence and your own vehicle would be necessary for the job after the apprenticeship.
