Apprentice Assistant Procurement Manager

Job Introduction

An opportunity has arisen for an Apprentice to join a dynamic and motivated Procurement team within Staffordshire County Council, helping deliver value for money for Staffordshire residents and businesses.

We spend over £500 million per year on purchasing a wide variety of services, works and goods for Staffordshire, and we want to recruit, and train, a keen Apprentice Assistant Procurement Manager to help us. 

Main Responsibility

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • preparing procurement documents 
  • learning about and using standard model terms and conditions of contracts
  • researching, accessing and reviewing the use of established public body contracts/arrangements
  • having a basic awareness of cost, pricing and value for money
  • learning about and understanding procurement rules and regulations specific to the Local Authority
  • with guidance and support, reviewing and evaluating quotations and tenders returned 
  • liaising with and support a wide range of customers in relation to procurement across the Council

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • possesses three A-level grades or equivalent 
  • is willing to complete the Level 4 Commercial Procurement & Supply apprenticeship
  • will have a basic awareness of the public sector and an interest in purchasing
  • has good numeracy skills
  • is confident in communicating verbally and in writing
  • is competent in using ICT and has good keyboard skills
  • enjoys working as part of a team
