Advanced Social Worker - Childrens Disability

There are four Children’s Disability Teams across Staffordshire. These are small teams of highly dedicated Social Workers. Working with us means collaborating across our teams and alongside colleagues in health and education settings.  You will be encouraged to share best practice, knowledge, and experience to continually improve the way we do things. We work in a large county with some diverse challenges – but together we can achieve positive change.

As an Advanced Social Worker you will offer management support and advice to Family Practitioners.  You will contribute to upholding the highest standards and drive continual improvement and learning embedding a restorative practice model, which focuses on keeping families together through a community-based approach. 

This is a 12 month fixed term position. 

Main Responsibility

Covering Stafford and South Staffordshire in the Children's Disabilities Team you will be working with families across the continuum of need from Child In Need through to the conclusion of Care Proceedings and Children in Care. 

Working within a District Model you will work closely with your colleagues in Early Help, Children in Care and Care Leavers and Assessment and Staying Together Teams. 

  • You will support the Team Manager in the development of the Team.
  • Take a lead on group reflective supervisions. 
  • Support with the screening and allocation of referrals.
  • You will be responsible for completing your statutory duties in co ordinating the child’s plan, reviewing and ensuring that our children are seen and heard.
  • Support and mentor colleagues to manage complexity across the team. 
  • Work collaboratively with our colleagues from Occupational Therapy, Health and Education. 

The Ideal Candidate

More generally, overall, our social workers need to be a:

  • Qualified Social Worker 
  • Registered with Social Work England
  • Have a current UK driving licence and vehicle
  • Experience of working restoratively and creatively with children and families.
  • Experience of leading and motivating staff with the desire to work with children and families to give them the right support at the right time with the aim of keeping families together where it’s safe to do so.
  • Enjoy working within a fast paced service.
